STATE OF MIND

Standing by the water's edge
Moonlight hits the lake
In silence, in a state of shock
Unaware of her mistake
Confused and yet she understood
Hearing voices in her head
Wondering if what she saw was real
Her hands soaked of sticky red
She fell onto her knee's in fear
Washed her hands within the lake
Mesmerized by what she saw
Blood red to pink escapes
Flashback to the start of morn
Her day began as days before
Except he would never wake again
His body cold upon the floor
She needed time to recollect
How of this could she explain
That in a cloak of darkened mist
The stranger was to blame
He knew her name, her face, her fears
He knew her husband too
Whispering, tempting, urging her
To what he said that she must do
Take the knife he whispered clear
For this is your release
Quickly end this nightmare
Whilst he's defenseless in his sleep
He'd been a brutal master
He the tyrant, she the slave
In a fit of desperation
She struck the fatal blade
Fear engulfed her sanity
Whilst relief stroked her calm insane
The patient died immediately
A Joe Doe, he had no name
She wandered to the window
So very cold, she starts to shake
In her mind she's left the Asylum
She's beside a moonlit lake
She plays this story over
Every day her nightmare comes
In her mental mind she's tortured
By what she may, or may not of done
