RAGAMUFFIN

Gather whilst I tell my tale, it ne'er takes long to tell

Begins the night of Halloween, afore the clock struck twelve

Rushing of the children's feet, upon the rain soaked street

Joyfully in fancy dress, they cried out 'trick or treat'

In shadows lurked, with evil smirk, the reaper and his blade

Waiting patient for his call, as still the children played

So unaware's, without a care they dashed from door to door

Ghoulish bags to eagerly fill, collecting candy by the score

Their sticky hands and faces, beaming full of glee

So I guess, more or less,

That's why they never saw little me

The night drew in, they had their fill, their parents call for home

Left in the night, a wretched sight, I was all alone

A ragamuffin, a runaway, dressed in filthy clothes

Dirty hands, grubby face, a child nobody owns

Hunger hurt my body so, my throat was dry and sore

I lay upon the concrete stone, I could not live like this no more

Shivering from bitter cold, bones felt like they would snap

I tried to sleep upon the ground, inside an old torn sack

Almost midnight, I lay so still, my heart to faint to hear

When an angel knelt beside of me, she gently whispers in my ear

'Child you are not alone, upon these lonely streets

Awaken, quick, come follow me, there's someone I'd like you to meet'

In what I felt was a kind of trance, I rubbed my tired eyes

And who do you think I came upon, to my amazement and surprise?

I am not about to tell you, it's for you to dig and delve

But I'm sure you'll find the answer, long before the clock strikes twelve!
